Born in 1964 in New Delhi, Subba Ghosh received his Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the College of Art there in 1984. Following this, he spent three years at the Surikov Institute of Fine Art in Moscow, and then returned to his alma mater in New Delhi to graduate with a Master's degree in 1990. Ghosh received a second Master's degree from the Slade School of Art and Theoretical Studies, London, in 1996. In addition, Ghosh has been trained in puppet fabrication, web design and 3D animation.
Solo shows of the artist's work include those held at Anant Art Gallery, New Delhi, in 2009; Talwar Gallery, New York, in 2002; and Shridharani Gallery, New Delhi, in 1992. Ghosh's work has also been featured in several group exhibitions in India and internationally.
Amongst the artist's honours are a Junior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, India, in 1999; a National Award from the Lalit Kala Akademi, India, in 1994; and a medal at 'Graphics '84 All India Exhibition of Prints', New Delhi, in 1984. In 2006, Ghosh was a visiting artist at Queensland College of Art, Brisbane. Ghosh has also contributed several essays to leading art publications and catalogues, and his work is included in the collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art, Lalit Kala Akademi, Museum of Ostrow- Wielkopolski, Poland, and Surikov Institute of Fine Art, Moscow.
